The battle of the bulge

Just realised i haven't blogged in almost a month.....

Work has been quite crazy

My new boss is a "workaholic/perfectionist"

I have nearly died from all the pressures ;)

Anyway i digress

Over the past month(s) i have tried to lose weight especially around my mid riff aka tummy

It's quite big you see. So much so that i've had people actually ask me if i'm pregnant.

I've tried sit ups with a tummy trimmer and i jog(more like run) for half an hour on Saturdays.

However for some odd reason the arrow on the scale is still pointing upwards or refusing to move from it's current position of 78kg.

I am at a loss as to what to do really....

Some time back i gave one fellow a ride. He's not my friend or anything, heck i don't even know his name.I was just being neigbourly because i had seen his face around the estate.

The silly punk had just after sitting for 3 minutes in the car had the impudence to tell me"shey u know u're getting fat?" to shut him up i said "I know" and he still goes on to say " so aren't u going to do anything about it?" Like it's his business....

I promptly responded no and turned up the radio....

Loud hiss....

This morning again, i had to stop at my friend's place to drop off some stuff and her younger cousin, doesn't even say good morning he just says " ha u're just growing fatter and fatter"

I was thoroughly embarassed to say the least....

It's a real battle some people say "you're losing weight oh" others happily tell you " Ha you're just looking fatter, or bigger"

Quite discouraging i must tell you.

I'm frustrated

At a loss as to how to win this battle of the bulge....

I'm desperate to make my tummy smaller again...

.......

Oh gosh, the "you're getting fatter" stories are endless. All I can say is eat less and exercise...but then who am I telling? I'm in the same predicament.

Naija people can be so rude and insensitive about weight issues - they never mind their own business. I think your best bet is to ignore them - people will always have somethign to say. Just don't mind them.
About weight loss, Rayo summed it up - more exercise and less food is the solution (for people like us who work long hours, the exercise part is really a challenge but it's crucial and actually helps you get through the day - the 30-minute Saturday jog seems to be not quite enough for you to lose, may be ok to maintain your current weight but you may need to push your body a bit more in order to see a loss - can you go up to 3 times a week?). About the food, eat more fruits and veg and cut down on the other stuff. It's not about starvation, it's about portion control and healthy food. Continue with your tummy exercises but don't rely solely on them, add some other cardio-vascular exercise - once the pounds start dropping off in a HEALTHY way (exercise and healthy eating) they will naturally come off the tummy too. Also drink LOTS of water throughout the day. My dear, I am also working on shedding some yeye excess pounds that I've been carrying about for way too long, so let's encourage one another!

I've also been gaining weight on my belly. I looked at my belly a few days ago and the first thot that came to my head was that i had a buddha belly. It was very funny, i couldn't even get depressed about it. Everyone is still telling me i'm okay, except people who have not seen me in a while. Those are always quick to point out how chubby i've gotten.

I know i need to work out, but i'm too lazy. My 54yr old mother puts me to shame. She runs on the treadmill for an hour EVERYDAY. The thot of doing that alone makes me tired.

So i've decided to decrease food intake. No more fast food and late night eating. Thinking of my buddha belly helps resist the cravings. I'm not starving myself oh, just eating small potions and cutting out (down) fattening foods.

Thanx peeps- all ur comments are so encouraging....

I feel lighter already.

Living and working in Lagos makes exercise kinda tedious, but some people still manage it so maybe i don't really have an excuse. ;)

I will work on increasing my exercise time and maybe even throw in joggin on Sundays before church.

Will keep you posted;)

@simplynuttie- I guess ur name could explain why you ran off from the gym LOL

You're right though less carbs and more fruits should do the trick.

I ate a whole watermelon on Friday and i brought cucumber to work today!!!!! but rice is just my weakness. I just can't say no to a nice plate of rice- white/jollof/fried/coconut etc etc LOL

God help me

Naija's can be quite direct when talking about other people's biz.
I agree with fluffy fan re what you can do. I also know it is not easy at first, but once you make a pattern of your exercise routine it gets easier but never easy.

Eat your rice. Just substitute half the usual amount with the cucumber or whatever veg you favour
